What is Pilates?
Founded by Joseph Pilates in Germany in the 1920's, Pilates based work begins by strengthening the core muscles, and works outward to the extremities to create muscular balance. This training philosophy combines elements of yoga, breath-work, weight-training and gymnastics to bring the body into proper alignment. The focus is on lengthening and strengthening muscles to improve flexibility, posture and circulation. With Pilates training, students will learn to work with the body, not against it.
