Make an Advent log (the HTLC tradition, instead of a wreath)

For the third year in a row, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will be hosting a Trunk Show sponsored by the World Mission Prayer League. Over the past few years members of HTLC have generously supported ministries around the world by purchasing unique one-of-a-kind items during the Sunday showing. This year the Trunk Show will be on Sunday, November 14.
The World Mission Prayer League is a Lutheran mission agency that was birthed from a prayer group. Prayer remains foundational to the work of the mission as expressed in the quote of the first WMPL missionary to Bolivia, Ernest Weinhardt, Prayer is our working method. We know no other.
Several ministries benefit from the Trunk Show. Peace Rehabilitation Center was founded a decade ago by a Nepali woman called by God to serve Nepali women and girls who were being trafficked to India. PRC provides a safe, godly place for girls to heal emotionally, physically and spiritually, and to learn new skills to live by including beadwork, macram and knitting.
Achkiy was begun by a Prayer League missionary to help women in a desperately poor part of Peru develop a way to support their families. The women make homemade cards, woodwork and beadwork.
Chelle Products provides a way for the western woman to wear an Indian sari without fear of it falling off! The saris are handmade and used in a variety of products: handbags, toiletry bags, pencil cases, small pillows, and covering for jewelry boxes of various sizes. The phrase, It takes a village aptly applies to Chelle Products as the men are the ones who spin and dye the thread, then work it on a loom into the 6 metre sari. The women do the sewing of the items and the children benefit by having the funds available to attend school!
Finally Motif, Ltd takes recycling to a new and creative level. Jewelry is developed from recycled glass beads. Totes of various sizes are constructed from cement bags. Key chains appear out of potato chip bags. Mens ties end up as womens shoulder bags. And Bollywood is a featured item of 2010 toiletry bags.
All proceeds from the Trunk Sales go directly to the ministries mentioned. Additional gifts may be designated through the World Mission Prayer League, 232 Clifton Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403. There are so many ways we help others at Holy Trinity. As we get ready for the holidays, keep the following activities in mind:

First Place School WINTER COATS! Donate a new or gently used winter coat or jacket (toddler sizes adult sizes) for students at First Place school. Its going to be a cold winter, help them out! We will collect them the month of November.
Want to support El Milagro? Attend the Christmas Ships event on December 23. Tickets are $125 per person and are limited to 50.

World Mission Prayer League Trunk Show coming again to Holy Trinity on November 14.

A one-hour review and study of the texts that will be heard in worship each week.
Wednesdays at 6 pm.

This 5-session class will be an opportunity to learn about prayer, experience
different types of prayer, have some fun, and even...pray!
First and third Thursdays, November 4 and 18.

An ongoing conversation about ELCA social statements and messages.
We will meet the second Sunday of each month at 6:30 pm.
On Sunday, November 14, we will be reviewing the draft statement on sufficient, sustainable livelihood for all.
