I specialize in saving taxes for businesses and their owners. I also provide business and individual tax planning services, especially in the areas of choice of entity (for example, LLC vs. Scorp), multistate taxation, and retirement plans. NOTE: New clients may want to download the tax organizer workbook. The organizer provides checklists and collects other information I need in order to do your return.
Downloadable Do-it-yourself LLC & Incorporation Kits
If you're looking for one of the downloadable do-it-yourself limited liability company formation, Subchapter S corporation, or incorporation kits which I wrote, this web site provides information about and links to pages that you can use to order these items. These do-it-yourself LLC formation and incorporation kits are available for all fifty states as instantly-available, downloadable pdf files. Note that these items aren't sold by my CPA firm, however, but rather by an affiliated entity, Stephen L. Nelson, Inc.
QuickBooks software training and consulting
If you're a business tax preparation or tax planning client, I can help you set up an appropriate business accounting system using a tool like QuickBooks Pro, QuickBooks Basic, QuickBooks Premier, or QuickBooks Enterprise. I can work with you to make your accounting system a powerful tool for better managing your business and its finances. And I can help you train and supervise accounting and financial management staff. (As you'll see if you spend much time poking around these pages, I happen to be the author of two rather popular books written about accounting software, QuickBooks for Dummies and Quicken for Dummies.)
General accountant services & business planning
I can provide as much help as necessary to prepare financial statements and work with you to create a practical business plan. I don't, however, provide bookkeeping services. You may find it useful, by the way, to know that another one of my books, MBA's Guide to Microsoft Excel, is used at several top-ranked business schools (including Dartmouth, Columbia, Notre Dame, and Thunderbird) as a text for business planning classes, seminars and workshops.
Personal financial planning
If I prepare your tax return, I can can often, incidental to my tax preparation and planning, assist you in identifying appropriate personal financial goals such as for retirement and estate planning and in mapping out a course for achieving those goals. I can also help you implement a practical, time-saving personal financial management system using a tool such as Quicken.
