Veterans Independent Enterprises of Washington is a non-profit organization committed to helping disabled and homeless veterans by providing a variety of services. The program is funded by customers who use our services to add value to their business. Our services to customers include packaging and re-packaging, painting, assembly, refurbishing, respirator repair, respirator refurbishing, and fabrication services. Our services for veterans include work adjustment training, work therapy, job placement services, transitional employment, emergency housing, transitional housing, and independent living services.
V.I.E.W. was incorporated in 1988 with a Board of Directors made up of community members who believe in the value of work in the rehabilitation process. The Board includes local business leaders, rehabilitation professionals, and representatives of veterans organizations.
V.I.E.W. works closely with a number of agencies providing services to disabled veterans including the VA Medical Center, the Washington Departments of Veterans Affairs and Employment Security.
V.I.E.W. operates 5 therapeutic residences in the Tacoma area for disabled veterans in the program.
V.I.E.W. is a work oriented rehabilitation program for veterans with the following disabilities:
psychiatric disabilities, such as chronic mental illness and addictions
homeless veterans needing rehabilitation
The program has full-time staff members with a multi-disciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals, including Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors and nationally and state certified Mental Health Therapists and Certified Chemical Dependency Specialists. Medical services are provided by the VA Medical Centers in Tacoma and Seattle.
The program is work oriented. All veterans in the program participate in work therapy. Veterans supplement their previous work experience with skills related to paint shop, powder coating, refurbishing, parts assembly, and machine work. V.I.E.W. can employ up to 100 veterans today in the 12 to 18 month program.
