Share some Good News
Annually on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we set aside an opportunity for you to bring glory to God in a unique and special way. Its our thanks offering! Sunday, November 21 we will spend the morning in song and testimonies of the goodness of God. I want to encourage you to prayerfully consider sharing your praise to God this time of thanksgiving.
The largest pot-providence (this food is so good you dont need luck!) you will experience at FBCC is our Harvest Dinner on November 21! Soon tickets and tables will be available for your selection.
The Harvest Dinner theme this year will be Minute to Win it. Taking a lead from the hit TV game show, we will be hosting our own silly and entertaining experience. Of course there will be prizes for completing the challenges, but no, $1 million is not one of the prizes! If you have a favorite game you would like to see us include, just let me know. Those of you who want to jump in to be a contestant will need to fill out an entry form; the contestants will be randomly selected and subject to all game guidelines. (See back page for more details.)
Countdown to Congo
This is the month, the countdown has started! We leave November 29at 2:00 or 1:00 or 1:30, I cant remember as the time has changed three different times on us. Here is our flight agenda for the first part of the trip. We fly out of Seatac on Lufthansa (LH 491) to Frankfurt. We arrive there at 8:35am, which will be 11:35p.m. Seattle time. We catch a flight to Brussels at 11:35am and arrive in Brussels at 12:30pm. It will be 3:30am Seattle time. We spend the night in a hotel in Brussels. On December 1 we travel from Brussels leaving at 10:50 am and arrive in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo at 8:30pm. No time zones are crossed on this flight.
One of the critical points on the trip to the Congo is our time spent in Brussels. When we arrive there it will be 3:30am Seattle time. We will need to stay awake until that evening so we can start getting acclimated to the time zone which is 8 hours ahead of Pacific Time. One study I read on acclimating to a new time zone said it can take 24 hours per time zone crossed. It could take us 7 days to get acclimated both when we arrive in Africa and when we return. That is something you can pray for!
We will be taking gifts with us for our missionaries, the pastors and others we visit. When Mike and Jill were at FBCC this summer we asked what kind of things do they miss that we can bring them. They said two things - peanut butter and chocolate chips! If you would like to send either of these two items with us, let us know since we can only take so much. The other gift we would like to take is Via coffee packets, an idea from Pastor Mark Schmutz who takes them when he travels. They are also a great personal touch from Washington State. If you would like to buy some for us to take just let one us know.
Jackie is making a sewing kit for each person. Each kit will have children fiskers scissors, a cloth tape measure, a set of needles, ink pen, thread and safety pins. Jackie will take your donations if you would like to help her out on this project. She has also purchased material for 27 bags and is planning to teach the ladies how to make a small bag to carry their Bible in, or make it larger to sell for a bit of income.
What we need most is your prayers. We will have a prayer list, including our itinerary (to the best of our knowledge), available just before we leave. As for now, pray for our peace and preparation which includes my writing and translating the outlines for the packet I am planning to take. Thank you for your prayers!
