In January 2010, Samaritan Healthcare, in partnership with Moses Lake Clinic, introduced a new hospitalist program. Moses Lake Clinic now employs three hospitalist that are based at Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Mohsen Halaby, Dr. Maryam Jamshidi and Dr. Isam Naoom treat only hospitalized patients and do not see patients outside of the hospital setting.
WHAT IS A HOSPITALIST?
A Hospitalist is an acute-care physician that cares for patients in the hospital. Hospitalist medicine is one of the newest and fastest growing areas of health care. Like all physicians, Hospitalists must complete a four-year bachelors degree, plus four years of medical school to obtain a M.D. In addition, they complete several years of graduate medical education.
WHAT DOES THE HOSPITALIST DO AT SAMARITAN?
When you are admitted to Samaritan Hospital, your primary care physician may ask the hospitalist to care for you during your hospital stay. Once you have been admitted under the care of one of our hospitalists, he or she will be in charge of your care and will see you daily. Your primary care physician will be notified that you have been admitted and the hospitalist will work together with your physician to ensure that you obtain the best care possible. The Hospitalist will be in charge of your daily visits to access and treat your medical condition, coordinating your care with other hospital services (x-ray, lab, pharmacy, nurses, consulting physicians, etc.) and answering your questions.
When you are discharged, your medical care will be transitioned back to your primary physician who will resume the responsibility for your ongoing outpatient care.
BENEFITS OF A HOSPITALIST
By having a physician in the hospital at all times, the patients needs will be met in a very timely manner.
