When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said, As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down. Luke 21:5-6.

Yesterday, in the midst of my morning prayers and reading time, this line from Nancy Copeland-Paytons The Losses of Our Lives leapt out at me: After all, in the beginning of every thing and every place, God hovers over the darkness of what is not yet.
This image, drawn from Genesis, arrived as a balm. A sudden plunge into chronic illnessa form of autoimmune arthritishas often, over the last year, left me reeling in the darkness of not yet. My imagined futurefull of physicality and staminahas been stripped away, and in its place stretches a dark uncertainty that includes the probability of persistent pain, disability, and a shortened life. Margaret Guenther’s The Practice of Prayer will be the focus for anyone wanting to learn more about prayer and how to do something different in connecting to God through prayer. Week 3 will include actual of several kinds of prayer.
Walt Johnson will be facilitating a three-week study group of the book continuing this Tuesday Nov, 16 @ 7pm in the Sacristy off the Sanctuary. Books will be provided..
