I am Candace S. Zygar, an adoption attorney in Tacoma, Washington. For more than 26 years, I have assisted adoptive parents and birth parents with the legal steps involved in providing loving, permanent homes for children. I offer reasonable fees and payment plans to my clients and a substantial discount for military families.

Adoption has been a part of my personal and professional life for many years. I worked as an adoption social worker before going to law school. My sister and her family also adopted my niece, Vicki, as an infant from Korea. I am very proud of the adult she has become and her service as an Air Force flight nurse.

My practice is limited solely to adoption services. I work with families in all types of adoptions, including:

Stepparent adoptions of children in blended families offer legal benefits and a sense of belonging to the child
Other relationship/domestic partner adoptions of children by relatives or by domestic partners
Foster child adoptions of children placed with you by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), the Washington State Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) or a contracting agency
Private adoptions of children already known but not related to you or non-relative adoptions through individual birth mothers
Agency adoptions of children that are facilitated nationally or internationally through licensed adoption agencies
Re-adoptions, also known as Washington birth certificate adoptions, of children adopted in foreign countries who require American birth certificates

In addition to working with the adoption of children, I also facilitate adult adoptions for those 18 years old or older. Occasionally, adults will, for personal reasons, wish to make a formal, legal bond without needing consent from the parents of the adult adoptees. This type of adoption is very simple, inexpensive, and may be completed in a short period of time.
