When Castle Bridge Winery opened its doors in September of 2006 it brought with it some very special and unique opportunities for wine lovers in Kent and the surrounding region. While they offer what you may typically see in a winerya selection of wines, gift shop and tasting room, they go a step further, offering the option of personalizing a label, holding a private bottling party and even making your own wine! This is a winery that can truly take your wine experience to a whole new level! While there are over 600 wineries in Washington, there are only a handful with options such as these and we are fortunate to have one located right here in Kent!
Castle Bridge is an intimate family owned and run winery. Owners Bob and Linda Schlosser started making wine out of their home several years ago and had so much fun that eventually their dream of opening a winery where people can come to learn about and enjoy wine without any pretense or snobbery became a reality. They now handcraft a variety of wines including one named after their son (Lord Zacharys Red) and one for a rooster who used to live on the grounds (Rooster Red). Castle grew out of their last nameschloss is German for castle. Just to keep it fun, many of their wines have a castle themed name.
The warm and inviting retail shop/tasting room (complete with fireplace) is stocked with wine and gift items. Up to three complimentary tastings are offered, so you have the advantage of tasting before purchasing. The gift shop makes for wonderful browsing, with items ranging from the usual to the unusual. The most unique and personal gift of all, though, is the ability to customize a wine label. From adding your own words to using a photo or your own artwork, there are many possibilities and even a book of examples to look through for ideas!
Private wine tasting parties up to 75 people can be accommodated where a popular option is to make it a bottling party. This provides a very special opportunity to experience a small part of the wine making process. Bottling, corking, spinning the foil and topping the bottles off with a custom label makes a wonderful ice breaker for any party and a unique and memorable customer appreciation or team building event.
For those desiring even more involvement, you can make your own wine! This is a fun and easy three step process occurring over about eight weeks with Bob or Linda guiding you through every step. From tasting and selecting the wine you want to make, pitching the yeast, racking to bottling, it is an experience you will never forget and best of all, you get to drink and/or give away ( if you can part with it) some wonderful wine that you can say you made yourself!
