Turning Potential into Performance
"Success depends on previous preparation and without such preparation there is sure to be failure" - Confucius
Youth development would be a more appropriate name for the program. Proper development is the essential factor in athletic success but is often the most neglected. Athletes, parents, and training facilities often push training as a short term quick fix with an overemphasis on immediate results. We now know that a long term commitment to practice and training is required to produce elite athletes in all sports.
If these skills are not developed between the respective ages, a significant windows of opportunity has been lost limiting the ability of the young athlete to reach their full potential.
Training young athletes is like learning a sport. Take golf for example. I could give you some clubs and a bucket of balls and have you go play twice a week for an hour. After 6-8 weeks you would more than likely show improvement but your potential for long term success is limited.
Now if you take that same amount of time and focus on mastering the fundamentals of stance, grip, posture, and swing mechanics you now have created a base of skills that along with continued training is much more likely to lead to long term success.
Master the fundamentals!
