Because it works! The healthy status of modern hypnotherapy reflects the long overdue changes in our current culture regarding our attitudes and our acceptance of HYPNOSIS as a safe, natural and powerful tool for personal growth and healing. Conventional medicine is undergoing a dramatic change expanding its practices to include the integration of the precision of modern science with a broader scope of mind-body-spirit-therapies (see www.cmbm.org) to create an open minded and comprehensive approach to healing and staying healthy. Dentistry is incorporating hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis training for fearful/phobic patients. Psychiatrists, mental health professionals and patients are documenting more rapid and lasting improvement where hypnosis is included as part of treatment. Olympic and professional athletes have successfully used self-hypnosis techniques for decades to improve their performance.
HYPNOSIS is a natural and normal state of deeply relaxed focus ("Im just resting my eyes") in which the student/client (not a subject!) is either guided or self-directed to a state of enhanced attention. At this level of relaxed awareness, your logical/rational/conscious mind can communicate more effectively (images, suggestions, mental rehearsal) with your intuitive / emotional / subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is the driving force in your life and before any conscious decision can become the desired change, there must be acceptance of that idea at a subconscious levelwillpower alone cannot override existing belief systems, self-image issues and/or behavioral habits.
All hypnosis is both voluntary and self-induced. The "hypnotist"/hypnotherapist simply operates as a tour guide or facilitator, leading your attention to reaching your desired health/behavioral goals. Rather than losing control (popular misconception) you are actually gaining deep levels of subconscious motivation/control that can and will help you to reach your goalsquicker, easier and with lasting results. Andyes, you will wake up!
