Kids Corner Program Goals and Philosophy
Our program allows children to learn and grow at their own pace by providing them with activities that are both interesting and challenging. Each child is very special, with a unique personality and individual needs. We consider the interests of children and design a program that satisfies their natural curiosity and need to learn about their world. Activities are planned to meet the social, cognitive and physical needs of the children in our care. Our curriculum is theme based and allows teachers as well as children to be creative and flexible. We strive to help children become independent and self confident through structured activities and loving interactions with our teachers. Each classroom, with the exception of our infant room, follows a schedule of activities. Time is allowed for independent, free choice work, as well as group activities. We offer a thematic learning program for children 12 months of age through school-age. Themes include topics such as Favorite Stories and Rhymes, Water Fun, and Me and My Feelings. A complete list of themes is available on this Web site. The majority of our field trips take place during the summer. We welcome parents to come join us at local parks, the beach and bowling. We also invite people in our community to share their talents with us. In August we host a reptile show. During our circus theme week a clown comes to entertain us, and the school-age children put on a circus show. Once a week, a musician comes to sing songs and play various instruments. We do not celebrate, within our curriculum, any holidays or religious practices. It is our goal to provide a well-rounded curriculum without focusing on these issues. We provide care for a variety of families, cultures and denominations. Parents are the most important influence in a childs life. The greater a parents communication with the teachers and involvement in the classroom, the greater will be the childs opportunity to grow and learn, both at home and at school.
The staff at Kids Corner is committed to providing a quality program for young children. Teachers have both practical experience, as well as formal training to work with young children. All staff members have received first aid and CPR training and education for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and other blood borne pathogens. Our teachers complete twenty hours of basic training in Early Childhood Education. We also keep our teachers current in developments in the field with continuing education to meet Washington state requirements for childcare centers. Kids Corner requires a criminal screening check on all our staff members.
Our classrooms are organized and clean to make children feel safe and comfortable. Toys and materials are accessible to children to encourage independence and responsibility. Activity centers are organized and materials are varied to inspire play. The classrooms are spacious, allowing children to circulate freely to areas of interest or play quietly alone. Each child is assigned a cubbie to store their belongings from home.
