Did you know...
the rough weather around Western Washington during winter, spring and fall can turn your trees into hazards? We've all seen the extensive damage that can occur when heavy rains soak the ground and violent winds whip through our neighborhoods, causing even healthy trees to fall or blow over due to loosened root systems. Trees topple on cars, homes and take out power lines. Homeowners can prevent some of the damage by spotting dangerous trees and removing them before a storm hits.

The first thing you need to look at is the crown: is it dying, growing cooked or broken off. One likely cause of these problems is damage to the roots that occurred years ago; perhaps when a new house was built or sidewalk, retaining wall, septic system or driveway was put in. The common thought is that the roots system stops at what we call the drip line, where those last branches are dripping water, but the root system of a tree extends well beyond that line. Any damage that occurs to these roots, especially the root fibrils located at the ends, is going to have an impact in the crown several years later.

The second thing to check are the branches; are they dead or dying. If your tree is healthy except for a few branches, often the dead or dying branches can be removed to leave you with a healthier and safer tree.

The third thing to look for are the signs that something is weakening the tree from inside, such as fungus or carpenter ants. Also at risk are trees that have been trimmed because of power lines, trees with leaves that fall early or the leaves turn brown and brittle. Also, certain trees should be avoided if you are landscaping your yard or property.

Who is Bob?
Bob grew up on a ranch near Eatonville, learning the ways of the woods with his father and learning the ways of a good man from helping out a sick grandfather with the chores of a ranch. Bob was cutting and splitting firewood from the time he was ten with heavier tree work to follow not so many years later. At twelve, he bought his first chainsaw; a brand new Stihl 024 that still runs well 27 years later, and began selling split firewood for pocket money. Firewood was not his only endeavor. Bob ran an old 1958 International TD-14A bulldozer to yard logs out of the woods, safely fell trees with the guidance of his father and skinned logs so they could be used to build structures such as barns and hay racks for animals. As time went one, Bob went to work for his dads contracting/construction business and continue to acquire experience and expertise in the matters of property solutions. Bob has a keen knowledge of how to take down a tree while sparing the property any damage. He has also developed a steady hand with heavy equipment in and out of tight quarters. He knows how to use a chainsaw the way most people know how to read and write. Though it has been many years since Bob was the kids selling firewood for pocket change, the strong work ethic and hard working nature remain ingrained. Bob does his job with such dexterity that many comment he seems to have no fear with his work. To him, a day up a tree is just another day at the office, but it is a day started with a prayer knowing the dangerous tasks he has to perform. For over 10 years now, Bob has helped clean up neighborhoods and landscapes around the Puget Sound by removing dangerous trees.
