This traditional art was started long ago by village craftsmen and peasants of Lower Silesia, who were first inspired by the wonder and beauty of the peacocks tail coloring and design, thus the eye of peacock feather motif was born. Rudimentary tools such as carved potatoes were used to hand stamp patterns onto the clay.

Once complete, the pottery continues to hold true to its incredible beauty, strength and uniqueness. The painters are trained for many years and a few become known as Unikat artists. Only those achieving the highest level of skill are awarded Unikat designation and may began to design their own works of art. These patterns are signed and numbered, and the decorations are highly sought after, which results in limited and hard to find pieces.
