            Modern HVAC units have gotten much more affordable and not just during the installation costs? Many newer furnace, air-conditioning units, and heat-pump units are so advanced that they use much less energy than your older, louder, energy hogging units.

What is SEER and what does it mean for you?

             Every air conditioner's efficiency is expressed using a measure also known as it's SEER rating. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.

The SEER rating of any air conditioner basically means how much cooling the unit produces divided by the electrical energy it uses.

SEER gives anyone the ability to calculate the kilowatts per hour that it would cost to operate that specific air conditioning unit. I have yet to ever meet anyone who cared to calculate how many kilowatts per hour their AC unit uses, but to each their own.

If you were trying to decide between a 13 SEER unit and a 16 SEER model, you would probably just want to know that the 16 SEER unit is about 20% more energy efficient than the 13 SEER unit.
