About Camano Island.. Camano Island jets out into the Puget Sound from the Washington mainland. To get to Camano Island you pass through Stanwood just north of Everett. People visiting the island often wonder why it's called an island considering that it's not isolated from the rest of Washington state. In fact, the only water seperating the two is a small unrecognizable flow of water called Davis' Slough. For the most part Camano Island is completely surrounded by water, except for the point in which you drive onto it. That's what makes Camano Island such a great vacation destination. It's easily accessible yet remote at the same time. There's plenty to do as it is, but being connected to the mainland opens up whole new opportunities for adventure and entertainment. Camano Island is known for it's terrific wildlife preservation, thriving artistic community, and has incredible bird watching. The boating and kayaking are top notch. Camano Island Bird Watching and Wildlife
Camano Island has been named, by the Washington Audubon Society, one the state’s best areas for bird watching. With gorgeous backdrops, there are some absolutely incredible photo opportunities! There are 125 species of birds recorded at Iverson Spit alone. Iverson spit is close to Camano Island's Eagles Nest and has a terrific sandy beach along with wonderful short hikes. Camano Island's Eagles Nest might be one of the best accomodations on the island for watching eagles; hence the name. The types of birds you can expect to see on Camano Island include: Bald Eagles, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Rufous Hummingbirds, Caspian Terns, Loons, Brant, Peregrine Falcons, Long-Tailed Ducks, Blue Heron, and much much more! Besides bird watching, the magnitude of marine life can almost go without mentioning. Whether it's digging for clams, having sea lions and porpoises curiously follow you by kyak, keeping your eye out for pods of Orca and Gray whales, looking for starfish, crabs, and a multitude of other marine species from the beach.. it's all there. On land there are all kinds of animals both wild and domesticated which show up around every corner: deer, alpalca, farm animals such as goats and sheep, rabbits, and others that appear on lovely rural bike rides. The list goes on and on.
Camano Island Recreation With state parks, golfing, wonderful beaches to explore, unique island and fine art galleries, biking through rural landscapes, multiple public boat launches, kyaking with whales, and much much more, Camano Island has enough to keep you plenty entertained! There are several public parks including the largest - Camano Island State Park. Camano Island State park boasts 134-acres of hiking, beaches, campsites, picnic areas, even an underwater scuba park for those who want to discover what draws so manydivers to the nutrient rich waters off the islands of Puget Sound. We highly recommend taking a trip over to the state park in the evenings to see spectacular sunsets as you look out over the Saratoga Passage towards Whidbey Island. If you feel like a night out, than not too far away there are lot's of casinos with dancing and live music. Included is one of the states largest - Tulalip casino. Of course, just staying in at the Camano Island's Eagles Nest lends itself to a pretty good time too with all of the amenities and entertainment we've provided you with at the cabin.
