THE REFINING POWER OF MARRIAGE

Congregational Meeting - Friday, November 19, 7:30-9pm. All West Side members are invited to our Second Annual Congregational Meeting Friday, November 19. The primary focus for this meeting will be the presentation by the Stewardship & Finance Department of our 2009 Funding Guide. This is an opportunity to review our support for the various ministries here at West Side and beyond. We will also elect four individuals, representing the congregation-at-large, to the Nominating Committee which will be responsible to search out the people God is equipping to lead us as elders and deacons in the new year. Those wishing to nominate someone to be one of the four congregation-at-large representatives should be sure that nominees are an active member who is not currently serving as an elder or a deacon, that they are available for meetings and home visits January - April, and that they have not just served three consecutive terms on the Nominating Committee.
Thanksgiving Praise Service - Don't miss West Side's traditional Thanksgiving service at 10:00am on November 25. We will worship our generous Lord together and share our many personal blessings with each other. This service is considered the most meaningful of the year to many. Plan to make it part of your holiday celebration.
Session addresses current staffing needs - Facing the need to keep all of West Sides ministries going and growing during a time when we are short-staffed and interims are working half-time at full-time jobs, Session has created a new part-time position of Ministry Coordinator and hired our own Laurinda OConnell to come alongside a variety of ministries, including our Youth Ministry. Her job will be to use her skills in ministry and administration to help facilitate a number of current ministry needs. Welcome Laurinda!
New Minister to Youth Called - After a six-month search, Session has called Charles Kennedy to be the new Minister to Youth at West Side. Charles will be graduating from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA, in December and will join our staff in January 2011. Charles is married to Sarah, a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Seattle, who will also be graduating from Fuller Seminary.
Weekend Custodian - We are accepting applications for a part-time weekend custodian position. For information and an application please contact our Facilities Manager, Scott Minaglia, at 935-4477 ext. 300, or you may pick up a job description and application in the church office.
The Seven-Member Planning Task Force (SPTF) was commissioned to initiate a planning process that would guide West Side for our future, to help inform us who we are and what we would like to be. Primarily the task force was informed by a questionnaire designed by the committee, after receiving significant input from West Sides small groups, which was then submitted to the congregation. The SPTF report directly reflects the responses of the congregation to that questionnaire, informing the committee on what West Side does well and what we might do better. After 5 months the SPTF has completed its task and Rick Boogaard presented a summary of those findings to the Session and at the Congregational meeting May 21, 2010. A full report of the SPTF findings is available to download and is also available in the church office for those without internet connections or who prefer a hard copy.
