Lots of other “Back in Stock” beers are in. Some notables, only cuz they’re some of my favs: Flying Dog Double Dog, Shmaltz Coney Island Lager, Lagunitas Luck y 13 Mando Red.
All right, Beerdos, gotta run, Arlene
So many new beers to try. Figuratively speaking, of course, I’m gettin a little behind! Couldn’t help but notice a theme to these beers that merge styles…cross-genders?…cross-dressers?…merge/yield to oncoming traffic? Either way, let’s roll, Arlene, thanks Beerdos.
Dogfish Head Miles Davis Bitches Brew-ale brewed with honey and gesho, bold dark beer that fuses two styles: Imperial Stout and honey-beer
Dogfish Head Theobroma-ale brewed with honey, cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, ancho chiles, and ground annatto. Liquid time capsule based on the earliest chemical and archeological evidence of cacoa in the New World, dating back to before 1100 B.C. Well, ok, not exactly merging styles, but what a merger of flavors, eh, eh?
New Belian Lips of Faith Series Belgo Belgian IPA, Belgian yeast meets West
Schmalz Brewing Co Rejewvenator, half doppelbock, half Belgian-style Dubbel, brewed with all natural Concord grape juice, sweet and strong, one of Arlene’s Picks
Midnight Sun Hop Dog, double wheat IPA, full-on hop impact merges with a refreshing wheat character, but the wheat yields to the hops in this one

Heather Ales Grozet, Scotland-gooseberry and wheat ale, crazy concoction of malts, wild spices, and ripe gooseberries, refreshing, mouthful of flavor, complete pleasure to drink.
Ok, then. Gotta run, I’s gots some samplin to do.
Great Divide 16th Anniversary Oak-aged Imperial IPA
BoulevardBrewing HARVEST DANCE WHEAT WINE STYLE ALE-From their impecable Smokestack Series, this ale begins with a large portion of wheat malt, and a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hopsare added. It concludes with an aging process on both French and American oak. The result?A volcanic eruption of a big warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, highlighted by wine-like notes. Rounds off slowly to a long, dry, oaky finish, AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE.
DiamondKnot in Mukilteo, Washington, just released WHIP AMERICAN PALE ALE.Therecipe was created by Michael Wilton of Queensryche and it’s pretty darn tastey: bright, citrusy hops balanced by an alluring malt presence.
Doesnt a beer sound good right now? Right now, right now? Yeah, right now. Yeah, me too. Stop By the Bottle and pick up a few. Here are some new ones to check out:
ROGUE XS SERIES IMPERIAL RED Say so long to the commemorative ceramic bottle for the XS Series. Yay for those who just wanted the beer inside those big jugs, boo for bottle collectors. Rogue went to the extreme opposite and put this tasty series in a little 7-ounce bottle. Dont let the small size fool you; its still big, and awfully cute. You can see how it measures up to the 12-oz bottle beside it, second beer from the left.
GOOSE ISLAND PERE JACQUESis a Belgian-style Abby Ale that is wonderfully malty & fruity. The complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the worlds finest beer bars. At the dining table its the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port. Pere Jacques pairs with a wide variety of foods. The intense flavors complement rich flavors like bittersweet chocolate or wild game and contrast with spicy flavors like curries. This beautiful ale is an excellent companion to some aged gouda, yum. Gold Medal Winner 2009 World Beer Championships, 8% abv
GOOSE ISLAND SOFIE- Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons. It reminded me of a lighter, more delicate version of a Belgian-style Triple. Sofies light and refreshing qualities will complement lighter food flavors like fresh oysters or delicate shrimp, and will provide contrast to rich shellfish like lobster. Indulge Sofie in an exquisite combination with a mild brie, ouch. Gold Medal Winner 2009 World Beer Championships, 6.5% abv
NEW BELGIUM ERICS ALE, named for long time New Belgium brewer, Eric Salazar, combines a dry/sour beer, aged up to three years in oak, with a semi-sweet, higher alcohol base beer. The resulting beer is re-fermented with pear juice, creating a smooth ale with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. Pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit aromas hover over your glass. The wood characteristics are present, but nicely muted.
21st AMENDMENT MONKS BLOOD This little beer in a can is bursting at the aluminum with flavor. I love this beer. Its Belgian-style Dark ale thats brewed with cinnamon, vanilla, oak chips, and dried figs. Monks Blood, killer!
Monks Blood is a great intro to 400 POUND MONKEY, a new IPA from Left Hand Brewing, but this isnt your typical IPA. Its an English-style IPA. Typically, this style isnt in your face with the hops or bitterness, so it provides a better balanced brew. With 400 POUNDER, you can actually taste some other interesting things going on like bready malts, earth, and herbs. Cmon hard core hop headsyou dont want to be in the barrel with the rest of the monkeys. Any monkey can add a gajillion hops to the barrel. You dont wanna be that guy, do you?
Welcome to the Jungle”
Unibroue Quelque Chose- A deep ruby red ale with an intense sweet and sour cherry flavor umbrella. Underneath aredrops of cinnamon & honey with a glisten of vanilla and clove. With very little carbonation, enjoy over the rocks as a cocktail. Either way, come on in from the rain and enjoythis versatile andbeguiling ale.
Firestone Solace- This beer has no style, seriously! It’s a triage of a West Coast Heff, with a German Heff cousin meets Belgian Saison. How ’bout a Hefeson?…or a Weizen-Saison? That’s a good one. With this unfiltered ale, you’re gonna get a blend of three things, but keep in mind, very subtlety: the West Coast Hop thing, the German banana and clove thing, and the sweet/spicy and tangy mouth and finish of the Saison thing. No style? I don’t think so! Excellent Spring into Summer beer. Firestone nailed it. Sometimes these hybrids of sorts cancel out the best of what each style offers. Not Solace, Firestone managed to retain the best of each style.
One of my all-time favorites is back in stock after way too long of a vacation, Avery Collaboration not Litigation, a collaborative effort of Avery and Russian River, enough said.
Widmer Brothers’ Reserve Prickly Pear Braggot-This is the 2nd release of the Brothers’ Reserve Series, and if its even half as good as their first effort, I’m in. This is a strong ale brewed with a blend of honey and red prickly pear juice which not only adds flavor intrigue, but also provides a rather unique hue to the beer. That’s it…I’m gonna go grab one…
Boulevard Dark Truth Stout-exotic, inky concoction of roasted fig, creme brule and espresso flavors, a Belgian yeast adds plummy fruitiness to the velvety mouth feel that smoothly leads to a dry, smoky finish, WO!
Boulevard Rye-on-Rye-37% ale, 67% ale aged in Templeton Rye Whiskey barrels, rich flavors of spicy sweetness transcend to hints of carmelized wood while citrusy hops round out this amazing ale
Boulevard & Orval Collaboration No.1 Imperial Pilsner-a very special combined effort from Boulevard’s highly regarded, and very limited Smokestack Series, and the world-wide re-known Trappist brewery, Orval.
Russian River Supplication-A brown ale aged in Pinot Noir barrels that takes over a year to make. During barrel aging, sour cherries and various yeasts are added to impart a complex cherry flavor and sourness.
Green Flash Hop Head Red Ale-Brewers notes: Resinous hop characteristics emerge from a 45 IBU hopping to balance the rich caramel malt base. To add savory hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry hopped the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Is this a Red IPA? Thats your call.
