Barbara Pickens and Ben Mulder of 4D Architects believe architecture should not only be beautiful but functional as well, and it should remain that way through time. Buildings and interior spaces involve and use the fourth dimension of "time and movement", which is why Barbara and Ben named their company 4D Architects, Inc. twenty five years ago this July 2010.

Starting with exploring your site’s potentials and challenges and a strong awareness of your goals and budget, they collaborate with you to achieve the best design for your project. Each design evolves with a responsive and different form that fits the environment and your needs.

A full service Seattle area architectural firm located in Kirkland and serving the Northwest and beyond, they use the theory of the fourth dimension in their designs for custom homes, builder homes, remodels and commercial buildings.

They have focused on educating clients about sustainable design for most of their professional existence. From the 22 year old vegetable roof garden over Barbara’s garage to the sustainable office building they designed and built for their own occupancy in 2006, they have refined and focused their skills in order to integrate the latest in sustainable design and materials.
