Today there are more than 12 million women in the United States who are addicted to alcohol or drugs. More than half of these women are alcoholics.
Research now shows that gender-specific recovery programs are especially important in the treatment of women who suffer from alcohol or drug abuse. Women substance abusers have very different issues than men including greater rates of depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies as well as exposure to trauma and domestic violence. Womens drug and alcohol treatment programs like those at Residence XII provide women with a safe environment where they can address their alcohol and drug addiction without the shame and stigma frequently found in co-ed alcohol and drug rehab environments. In a gender-specific treatment program, a woman can be more open about her past, her relationships and her feelings without worrying what the men in the group are thinking.
Located in the Seattle, Washington area, Residence XII was founded as the premier center for women in the Pacific Northwest and one of the first womens treatment centers in the United States to provide a safe, supportive and healing environment for women seeking treatment for their alcoholism and drug abuse. Since 1981 Residence XII has treated more than 10,000 women substance abusers and their families. What all these women have in common is the desire to overcome their addiction in order to achieve happy and productive lives in recovery.
The Power of Recovery - a Residence XII video
At Residence XII, every alcohol and drug treatment program is individualized to meet the womans unique situation and needs and includes a family component. Because research has clearly shown that a womans relationships directly affect recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, we believe the involvement of family and friends in counseling is critical to a womans success. Residence XII programs for women are abstinence-based using 12-Step program principles which focus on the disease of addiction as well as guilt and shame, self esteem, assertiveness, sober life skills, nutrition and relationship issues.
In addition to residential treatment, we offer intensive outpatient, continuing care, relapse prevention and family programs. The residential, intensive outpatient and relapse prevention treatment programs provide highly structured goal-oriented curriculums with individual and group counseling. Continuing Care provides skills, tools and peer support for the recovery process. Residence XII is CARF Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, State Certified and a member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers. Services are covered by most insurance plans.
